As we reported in our blog last week, 44% of US survey respondents are not only doing more shopping online than they were pre-pandemic, but they expect to continue to do so even after the threat from COVID-19 recedes. The recently released US Census Bureau’s Estimated Quarterly US Retail Sales report underscores this trend, highlighting how e-commerce sales have soared 44.4% annually, bringing in over $201 billion in Q2 2020.

This figure represents a significant spike over the 13.9% YoY growth rate seen in Q2 2019. E-commerce sales now account for an unprecedented 15.1% share of total US retail, up from 10.1% in Q2 of 2019.

This trend means that retailers must work hard to ensure their consumers have authentic and safe experiences across all their digital channels, including their apps.
